Causes OF Rusting On Metal And How To Prevent It?

When an iron object is exposed to air or moisture for a while, it becomes covered with rust, a bright orange brittle material. Rust stains are the corrosion of elements such as iron and steel that occurs when a refined metal is converted into a chemically solid region such as iron oxide and hydroxide. Rusting is an example of chemical change. However, we can prevent rust from metal (สนิม เหล็ก, which is the term in Thai) either way, chemical or non-chemical.

We Can Prevent Rusting Quickly In The Following Ways.

Painting

When a coat of paint is applied to the surface of any iron object, the air and the moisture cannot determine contact, so that we can prevent rusting by these methods. It also affects Bender grills, railings, iron bridges, coaches, etc.

Oil Or Grease

In bicycle chains or any mechanical parts. We can use this because it lubricates and lowers the rust by coating it with grease or oil.

Galvanization

It is also known as a sacrificial method. Why is it so? Zinc is more reactive than iron, so zinc has to be eroded faster than iron when it is used for oxygen and moisture. If we put together iron and zinc, a thin layer of zinc will protect the object by sacrificing itself, called a sacrificial process. It is applied to the different iron pipes in our home, the pockets or drums, whatever is there in our home, our galvanized.

Chrome Plating

Iron is coated with chromium. Chromium is a metal which is resistant to the action of air and moisture, so it prevents rusting. It is generally done in steel Furniture, TAPS, and bicycle handles. Etc.

Sandpaper

Using sandpaper to polish steel is a rust removal method with no complicated steps and is easy to do. Just take rough sandpaper and dip in a little water. To soften the sandpaper, Then, scrub the rusted iron area. Sprinkle some water on the sandpaper throughout the polishing period. To reduce friction during polishing, change to finer sandpaper when polishing the steel. Dip a little water and scrub the object thoroughly.

Rusting can also be prevented by allowing it to make stainless steel. When iron is mixed with carbon, chromium and nickel, the stainless steel obtained from this stainless steel prevents us from rusting. So, we use different types of utensils generally made of stainless steel, and they don’t get rusty when we use them so frequently in the kitchen.
